THE BUSINESS SKILLS

The skills that get you to 6-figures are not the complete set that will take the business beyond you.

You already know how to create, sell and deliver valuable work. The next stage adds the skills involved in making the business more profitable, scalable and capable of performing through other people.

6 figures is where the education gap becomes easier to see.

Where the educations stops

Access and exposure

Many founders begin with expertise in a profession or craft. Starting means turning that expertise into an offer, choosing an audience, promoting it, making sales and delivery the work. There is an abundant supply of education for this phase, and a founder who has reached 6 figures has learned a great deal.

The next growth is different. How do you increase revenue without increasing your own workload at the same rate? How do you improve profit, choose where to invest, build a team and create an operation that can perform without everything returning to you?

Not everyone has had the same opportunity to learn at work.

Where the educations stops

Access and exposure

Senior roles involving responsibility for profit, operations and whole-business performance are important places where commercial judgement is developed. Women remain significantly underrepresented in them.

A founder may therefore build a sustainable 6-figure business through deep functional expertise and considerable ability, but have had limited opportunity to make trade-offs across whole company. Growth suddenly asks her to do that work in every area at once.

The ability to grow and lead a company can be learned.

Where the educations stops

Access and exposure

People become better at reading financial information, evaluating options, allocating resources, managing performance and setting direction nu learning how those things work and then practicing them repeatedly.

Founders should not have to depend permanently on an adviser to perform this thinking for them. Expert support can be valuable, but it should also leave the founder better able to ask questions, evaluate recommendations and hold responsibility for the decision.

Women need more places to discuss the work of leading companies.

Where the educations stops

Access and exposure

The Rise Report found that 78% of female founders regarded human connection as central to their entrepreneurial journey. CALMM’s rooms are designed around practical commercial discussion: real numbers, difficult choices, people questions, opportunities and the reasoning behind the decision.

As more women learn these skills, use them visibly and share what they know, more women can build commercially substantial companies and exercise the choice, influence and financial control that comes with them.
